The first tentative steps made by humans on another world were made in a very smooth region of the Sea of Tranquility. The Apollo 11 landing site was chosen primarily for safety. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin together explored the landscape around the lunar module for 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 40 seconds and collected 22 kilograms of rocks and soil.
