Of historical interest, look at these articles from
the first year after the discovery of Pluto, particularly this first IAU Telegram
(#225, dated March 14, 1930) from Shapley announcing the discovery of a
transneptunian planet, which was temporarily designated ``Object Lowell
Observatory''. Subsequently: ``Lowell Observatory Circular dated 1930 May 1
suggests the symbol Pl for the new planet (representing Pluto and the name of
Percival Lowell).''
