Wide field images of Comet Hyakutake

1996 March 23 - Wide-field CCD images. This is done with a Photometrics CCD system, with a 50mm lens all bolted to the side of the 42" telescope. At the time of the observations, the telescope was tracking the comet. The B/W image is done through a "blue" filter, the color image is a composite from red, green, and blue color filters. The really bright, saturated, star is Arcturus. The dark triangle in the upper right is from the dome. In these pictures, north is a little left of up. These are 20 second exposures at f/4.
