Oil Exploration

When I worked in the oil industry, I used 3D seismic to search for gas reservoir in the Guld of Mexico. The picture above is a horizontal amplitude map of a subsurface layer about a kilometer under the ocean floor that contains an ancient river bed. This river bed had a very high reflection coefficient indicating that it was probably filled with gas. Unfortunately at current prices this gas pocket is not big enough to produce and make a profit, but it sure is cool to look at! It sure would be cool to use similar methods to find ancient auried channels on Mars or Titan.
