Physical Classification

Morphological Types

  1. Detached - both stars smaller than Roche lobe

  2. Semidetached - one star smaller than Roche lobe, the other fills the Roche lobe

  3. Overcontact - both stars larger than Roche lobe

  4. Double Contact - both stars fill Roche lobe (applicable to systems with non-synchronous rotation)
